Posted by Admin with No comments

When i had my first baby i faced a lot of sad moments and stress because my baby doesn't know how to feed and this is because i didn't know how to breastfeed correctly then after several trial and error , reading i found the good way.

The problem that here in lebanon there is no centers to guide new moms and give them advises about how to take care of new born also moms forgets this small tips and don't tell us how to resolve this issue.

Now i have my second baby i'm happy with here and she enjoyed eating without suffer. so i decided to write this article to help my friends (new moms) to enjoy breastfeeding period with their babies and to allow baby get the most benefit for his health.

why breastfeeding is very important ?

Because :
a) Breastfeeding protects your baby from a long list of illnesses
b)Breastfeeding can protect your baby from developing allergies.
c)Breastfeeding may boost your child's intelligence.
d)Breastfeeding may protect your child from obesity.
e)Breastfeeding may lower your baby's risk of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS))
f)Breastfeeding can reduce your stress level and your risk of postpartum depression.

Things you should Know :

1.Try to place baby at the breast as soon as possible after birth.

2.Babies only minutes old will often crawl up to the breast from the mother’s abdomen, and start breastfeeding all by themselves. This process may take up to an hour or longer, but the mother and baby should be given this time together to start learning about each other. Babies who “self-attach” run into far fewer breastfeeding problems. This skin-to-skin contact will also help keep the child warm.

3.Babies will take whatever method gives them a rapid flow of fluid and may refuse others that do not. Thus, in the first few days, when the mother is producing only a little milk and the baby gets a bottle from which he gets rapid flow, he will tend to prefer the rapid flow method.

4.Nurse on demand, up to twelve feedings a day. This will keep your baby happy and will increase your milk supply to meet the demand as it grows. Also, don’t let your baby sleep through a feeding.

5.Try not to impose too many restrictions on the length or frequency of breastfeeding .

How To successfully breastfeed ?

The secret for successful breastfeeding is the C-shape holding of the breast and the body position for your baby to have a good deep latch.

C-Shape Holding

Basics of a good deep latch.
          1.  Support the breast in the c-hold discussed earlier.
          2.  Line the baby's nose up with your nipple.
          3.  Use your nipple to tickle the baby's lower lip in a downward motion to elicit the      open mouth reflex.
          4.  Wait for a yawn or cry-wide mouth.
          5.  Swoop the baby's entire body towards you.
          6.  Bring the baby's bottom in closer to you.  This will dig in the chin and tilt the head slightly.
          7.  Support the breast for a newborn the entire feeding, but don't forget to relax your shoulders and make sure you have support for your arm as newborns can take 45 minutes to get in 20 minutes of swallowing.

Diet for a healthy breastfeeding mom

From my experience our diet affect the milk production and quality of milk if you don't eat well your baby stay hungry because milk is like water . so When I started a balanced and protein rich diet 15 minute is sufficient for him.

The best two food for milk production is eggs and yogurt. i use them in emergency and when i need quick results. My experience results may not be the same for another mom.

Here below you can find a Anti-Colic Diet later in another article we will discuss Colic symptoms and how to help your baby to reduce colic.
